My mom, grandma and I stayed in this apartment March 22-28. We had been wanting to visit Scotland together for years, the opportunity finally came, and we had a fantastic time.
This apartment was perfect for us. Right on the Royal Mile-- St. Giles is just across from this place-- so we didn't have to worry about driving anywhere or finding transportation. We just walked and took buses everywhere we wanted to go. The location is great. If you open the windows during the day, you can hear street performers playing just below- Awesome!
We didn't have any problems with noise at night. All of the windows in the place have wooden shutters and heavy drapes, and the area around the building was very quiet at night (after the ghost tours stopped). It's possible that noise might be more of a problem during peak tourist season or festivals, but that's probably true of anywhere that you'd stay on the Mile - and possibly less of a concern here because there are no clubs or late restaurants (that I noticed) immediately around the place...
Other than that, the only caution that I might give would be about the stairs. There are a lot of them. Totally worth the climb for the spectacular views that this apartment has, but definitely could be a problem if you have bad knees...=)

At this point, I should mention that the gentleman who let us into the apartment, Mr. Stewart, very kindly insisted on carrying my grandma's suitcase all the way up those stairs for us. We appreciated that very much.

**I have stayed at three different apartments with Edinburgh Self Catering-- over all very happy with the company. I'm planning to write reviews for Parliament Sq. 2 and Niddry St. 3, too!

Property Manager Response (13 May 2011):

Thank you for spending the time to write such a comprehensive review for Parliament Sq 1. It is always good to know that the accommodation contributed to a great experience in Edinburgh.

Thank you also for allowing Dave Stewart to carry the luggage, he can certainly do with the excercise.

Regards,

Glenn Ford

My wife and I traveled to Edinburgh for our 20th anniversary and splurged a bit on this flat. We couldn't have been any happier with our choice of accommodations or with how our reservation was handled in general. Just a great flat in a great location for anyone who can handle the stairs.

I stayed at this property for Halloween 2008 with 3 friends. I have to say that this apartment is part of what made our stay in Edinburgh so enjoyable and memorable.

There are absolutely majestic views of St Giles Catherdral out of 2 the windows and the apartment is huge; a real home from home. The beds are all very comfortable with shutters to close out the nightlife on the streets below. The kitchen is fitted out with everything you could need and the living room provided ample space for 4 girls in PJs to lay around watching DVDs. The bathroom was large and always had hot water and had enough room for 4 girls things!

As with lots of self catering accommodation in Edinburgh - if you want the amazing views and to stay in gorgeous old listed properties - expect a haul up several flights of stairs - there are no lifts. But the climb to the top is more than worth it.

The guy who met us to let us in was helpful, informative and very polite and punctual.

The cost for 4 people to stay here was approx half the cost for two hotel rooms which is what we were looking at originally. Very reasonable prices and great savings made.

All in all, this place was magic and we have nothing but great memories and we will be back!

Thank you

This review is long overdue. We travelled through Scotland and Ireland last year and our stay at Parliament Square was definitely the highlight of our trip!! We stayed at several self-catering apartments and 5 star hotels and this place was, by far, the best!! The location is unbelievable. The apartment is impecable - clean, spacious and very well-appointed. The transaction with Edinburgh Self-Catering was seamless. It is up a fews stairs, but it's well worth the climb. I would HIGHLY recommend this property to anyone!!
